This is a US Sixth Army patch from the pre World War II period. The patch measures 2 5/16" wide and 2" high. The patch is a hexagon shape with a white six pointed star on a red back ground. This first version of the Sixth Army patch was approved on 26 January, 1927. The six pointed star and shape of the patch suggest the number of the unit. The Sixth Army was activated in January, 1943. The leadership of the Sixth Army requested a new design for the patch and it was approved in January, 1945. The Sixth Army, commanded by LTG Walter Krueger, was credited with the New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Leyte and Luzon campaigns. The one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on the patch at all. I do not believe this patch has ever been sewn on a uniform. If you have a patch collection your gonna need one of these to complete it.
