This is a wooden presentation case for The Order of the Sacred Treasure 8th Class from World War II. This Japanese order was established on 4 January, 1888 by Emperor Meiji as the Order of Meiji. Originally it was awarded in eight classes, but the 7th and 8th classes were abolished in 2003. Originally a male only decoration, the award has been available to women since 1919. The black lacquered wooden box is in fair condition. The bottom section of the box has separated, causing the box to sit at an angle. The lacquer has worn of the edges of the box, revealing the natural wood color. The small brass latch and tab are still present and work fine. The purple cloth lining of the box is in good condition, showing only a couple of small wear spots. There are a couple of small smudges on the top of the box, but they do not obscure the kanji. If you happen to have a loose 8th award of The Order of the Sacred Treasure this is the box you need for it.
