Vietnam War Period Model 1956 Load Bearing Equipment Suspenders

This is a set of US Model 1956 load carrying equipment suspenders, part of the M1956 Load Carrying Equipment that replaced the M1945 Combat Pack system. These cotton canvas suspenders were made in three sizes, small, regular and long. The regular size, of which this set of suspenders is, was for a height under 68". The suspenders are adjustable by means of four adjustable buckles on each strap of the suspenders. Unfortunately the buckle on the left front strap is missing the clamping piece. The US stamp is light, but still visible. Ink stamped on the inside of the left shoulder strap is SUSPENDERS, FIELD PACK, COMBAT, M-1956/DSA 100-71-F-U701/8465-577-4922/CENTER FOR THE BLIND. These were used by the US military from the late 1950's all the way into the 1990's.
