This is a Mills woven cartridge belt with an Anson Mills "Dog Head" belt plate from the turn of the 20th century. Mills made these woven cartridge belts for the US government as well as the commercial market. The webbed belt is in very good, but used condition. It measures 2 1/4" wide and is 48" long when adjusted all the way out. There are 45 loops for .45 caliber cartridges. The cartridge loops show some fraying at the top, but none at the bottom. The Mills logo is stamped on one of the brass adjustment ends of the belt. It has a cartridge with MILLS on the case and PATENTED APR 18, 1905. The opposite adjuster is stamped MADE BY/MILLS WOVEN CARTRIDGE BELT CO./WORCESTER, MASS, U.S.A. The tongue of the brass "Hounds Head" buckle is stamped ANSON MILLS PAT. FEB. 1, 81. The belt is a little dirty in spots, but as strong as the day it was manufactured. This one could still be used today. It would look great displayed by any turn of the century .44 or .45 caliber firearm!
