This is a non excavated .44 caliber combustible paper cartridge used during the Civil War. This type of paper cartridge would have been soaked in a nitrate solution to ensure the paper would leave little to no residue after firing. The tapered cartridge has an overall length of 1.40" with a projectile diameter of .445". The projectile, a pointed nose, has an aged, light gray patina to it. The paper has a light brown or tan color to it. There is a short break in the paper on one side that has been stabilized with an adhesive. These rounds were made for .44 caliber revolvers of the Civil War period. If you have an ammunition collection, this one needs to be in it!
