Grouping of UCV Colonel William M Cochran

This is a grouping of United Confederate Veteran Colonel William M. Cochran. William Maston Cochran was born on 21 July, 1839 in Calloway County, Kentucky. He enlisted at the ago of 22 in Company E, 7th Kentucky Mounted Infantry Regiment, Confederate States Army on 15 September, 1861. 2LT Cochran served with the 7th Kentucky until his surrender on 4 May, 1865 at Citronelle, Mississippi. He was paroled on 18 May, 1865 when he took his oath of allegiance at Grenada, Mississippi. Cochran survived the war, taking up residence in Terrell, Texas where he became a cotton farmer. He became a member of the United Confederate Veterans, and was elected as a Colonel of the UCV unit. William M. Cochran died on 26 April, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee and is buried there. Included in the grouping is: 1 A cabinet card of Cochran in his later years wearing a civilian jacket with a Forrest Cavalry Corps badge pinned on it, 2 A cabinet card of his wife Louisa Cook Cochran, 3 A wartime CDV of 2nd Lieutenant Cochran back marked Barr, Rankin & Co Photographic Gallery that was located at the corner of Broadway and Market streets in Paducah, Kentucky, 4 A wedding photo of Mr. & Mrs. William M. Cochran with a hand written date of 3 Feb, 1875 taken in Dallas, Texas, 5 A post card with Colonel Cochran's image on the back in his UCV uniform, addressed to his son in law Walter Alexander of Memphis, Tennessee, 6 A post card with Cochran and his wife on the back that was never sent out, 7 2LT Cochran's Southern Cross of Honor, unnamed, 8 A modified Forrest Cavalry Corps badge with two added headers with celluloid badges that read COMMISSARY GENERAL and KENTUCKY DIVISION, 9 A representatives badge for the 1902 UCV national reunion held in Dallas, Texas 22-25 April, 10 A badge for the 1909 UCV national reunion held in Memphis, Tennessee 8-10 June, 11 A badge for the 1911 UCV national reunion held in Little Rock, Arkansas 15-18 May, 12 A badge for the 1920 UCV national reunion held in Houston, Texas 6-8 October, 13 A badge for the 1928 UCV national reunion held in Little Rock, Arkansas 8-11 May, 14 A celluloid badge for the 1928 UCV national reunion held in Little Rock, Arkansas 8-11 may, 15 A celluloid badge for the Confederate Home for Women and 16 A three ring binder full of information on 2Lt Cochran's service during the Civil War, more photos of Cochran and his wife, daughter and son in law, birth certificates, marriage certificates and an inventory of the original grouping purchased back in 1986. As far as UCV grouping go, this is by far the best one I've ever had. It comes in a nice wooden display case that will transfer to the new owner. You UCV collectors from Kentucky should take a good hard look at this one, it could well be the center piece of your collection!
